Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan have treated fans to a glimpse of their eagerly-awaited return to Neighbours for the soap’s final episode.

The pair - who are reprising their roles as husband-and-wife Charlene and Scott Robinson - shared snaps from Ramsay Street to their Instagram grids, with Kylie, 54, quoting a lyric from their 80s hit Especially For You, “Now we’re back together”.

Meanwhile Jason, who dated co-star Kylie for three years until 1989, wrote, “So good to be back with this absolute legend @kylieminogue”.

The soap star-turned singer wasted no time picking up where she left off 34 years ago, as she slipped into denim overalls to pay homage to her mechanic career.

In March, it was confirmed that the Aussie-based soap would be coming to an end after 37 years.

The gripping and emotional finale will air at 9pm on Friday 29 July.

On this day, UK fans will be able to watch the antepenultimate episode in the usual slots at 1:45pm and 6pm on Channel 5, followed by the history-making finale which will air as a double episode special at 9pm the same evening.

Charlene and Scott Robinson were firm favourites with viewers and their relationship boosted ratings.

Their story culminated on their wedding day in July 1987, an episode which attracted 20 million viewers.

On the final day of production last month, Jason, 54, reflected on Neighbours’ “television history”, writing, “Apart from all the friendships and memories (even that mullet :) It has provided countless opportunities for talent, across the board, in my native home Australia and for that I’m beyond grateful.”

While a reminiscent Kylie said, “It was emotional going back to the set and felt beautiful, actually, the fact that we could see each other. I haven't seen these people in - some of them - for over 30 years.”
