Strictly Come Dancing’s first ever same sex couple, Olympian Nicola Adams and her professional partner Katya Jones, were axed after just three dances last week when Katya tested positive for Covid-19.

While both women were left with no choice but to pull out of the competition to halt the potential spread of the virus, it’s now been reported that the couple will return later on in the series.

“Strictly bosses knew as soon as Nicola had to leave that they wanted to do something special for her,” said a source.

“The rules mean she can’t come back to the show next year but they’re planning to bring her back with Katya for the final.

“And Katya is a much valued professional onthe show and is hugely popular."

Speaking to The Sun, they continued, "This hasn’t affected her place in the Strictly family."

Strictly suffered quite the setback last week when not only Katya and Nicola, but two more major stars on the show were forced to temporarily drop out due to coronavirus fears.

Rylan Clark-Neal, who hosts the spin-off show It Takes Two with Zoe Ball, was forced to self-isolate after coming into contact with someone who tested positive for the virus.

And then it was revealed that judge Motsi Mabuse would be replaced on the panel by former contestant Anton Du Beke after she was legally obliged to quarantine upon returning from Germany.

“Earlier this week I needed to travel to Germany for an urgent reason,” she told fans.

"I will of course be following UK government guidelines and self-isolating for 14 days. I’ll be watching from home and by the power of technology, should be in your living rooms. Watch out though, I’ll be doing my own hair and make-up."
