Idris Elba has had been humouring fans recently by answering a lot of their questions on Twitter.

The star made our bank holiday weekend as he replied to a fan asking him whether there was any chance of a new series of the hit London police drama by saying "big chance, watch this space."

The actor, director, producer and house DJ finished off his tweet by adding a sunglasses emoji, because that's how cool he is.

The reveal comes after the show's director, Neil Cross, implied that they wouldn't be resuming filming any more episodes after the two episode mini series in 2005.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly he said: "Not because we don't all love it but the timing — Idris is a star of some considerable stature and it just began to look impractical that we would ever be able to make any more."

Idris has revealed in the past that he has an affiliation for the highly intelligent police detective. In interview with the BBC before the third series he said: "I love the depth of character and I feel like I know him really well now."

But the issue remains, when will Idris have time to film a fourth series? Having just filmed The Dark Tower, DJing around the world, becoming a clothing designer and opening a shop with Superdry in Shoreditch, training to become a kickboxer in Cuba for his new documentary film Fighter, being a dad, and being subjected to constant debate over his suitability for playing James Bond, will Idris be too overwhelmed to step back into the role of DCI John Luther?

In interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Idris said that he can slip back into his Luther role with ease: "It's never difficult, because all I have to do is put on the coat, and I'm him."

And just in case you'd forgotten why we love watching Luther so much...
