Himesh joined EastEnders in 2007 as Tamwar and during his time in Walford, Tamwar decided to abandon his plan to go to university and instead became a stand-up comedian, he supported his brother Syed Masood (played by Marc Elliot) when he came out as gay and he dated Afia Khan (played by Meryl Fernandes) but it turned out that her dad was Yusef Khan - Zainab's ex-husband.
In his last few years in Albert Square, he had an on-again-off-again relationship with Nancy Carter (played byMaddy Hill) and despite their families meddling, they ended up totally loved up.

Tamwar and Nancy left Albert Square in 2016 after she expressed her wishes to move to Italy. In 2019 Tamwar and Nancy got engaged and moved to New Zealand.
However in a shock twist, in 2021 Nancy returned to Walford and announced they were divorced.
Why did Himesh Patel leave EastEnders?
In 2019, he told Marie Claire, "The amount of time I planned to stay kept changing because I was aware the transition could be hard. I was still enjoying my time there and growing as an actor. But then it felt like the right moment to take a leap of faith.
"It was a tough decision to walk away from what was my family, and a character who will always have such an important part of my life, but it had to be done. There's only so far you can take yourself as an actor and a character in that show. I knew it was time to leave, and it was terrifying."
