Great British Bake Off fans have had an interesting week, to say the least. And now, it’s been reported that next week’s episode of the much loved baking show might take a sour turn, with contestant Candice Brown making the shocking claim that Mary Berry “slaps” her.

During Wednesday night’s episode, a Twitter use wrote: “I’d love to see Mary slap that smug look off Candice’s face.”

Candice then responded: “If you watch next weeks she actually does!” kicking off some serious speculation about Mary Berry literally slaps her. We personally always thought of Ms Berry as more of a lover than a fighter! Maybe it’s just a joke?

This isn’t the first time the baker has hit back at online trolls. The contestant, who has been likened to Victoria Beckham, was criticised for wearing bold lipstick colours. “GBBO KNEW I recognised Candice from somewhere,” wrote a user, alongside a cartoon picture pouting.

To this, Candice replied: "Getting better each week- might try this look tomorrow!!!!” She also uploaded a photo of Daffy Duck with the caption: "Night all!!! Loveliness appreciated as always!! Time to rest the duck face #daffy #loveliness #itsjustmyface”.

This comes in the week that it was announced the show would be moving to Channel 4, sparking much loved presenters Mel and Sue to quit, and speculation as to what this might mean for judges Mary Berry and Paul.

New reports suggest Davina McCall and Clare Balding may be in the running to present the new Channel 4 version of the show. Indeed, Davina has previously worked with Channel 4 on some of their biggest hits, including the original run of Big Brother, The Million Pound Drop Live and The Jump.

What do you think? Could Mary Berry possibly have slapped Candice? Let us know over on Facebook and Twitter (@CloserOnline).
