Earlier this year, the Internet went into meltdown when a Gavin & Stacey Christmas Special was announced but since then, details of the plot have been mostly kept under wraps.

Now BBC have released an official trailer of the Christmas Special and we won't lie to you, we're absolutely buzzing.

In the video Smithy, Gavalar, Pam and Mick reunite by singing Elton John's iconic Step Into Christmas. We then see Stacey, Nessa, Bryn and Gwen all in Barry Island getting ready for the festive season.

Not only the main characters but our favourite duo - Mick and Pam's BFF's - are back and as funny as ever, with Dawn telling Pete, "I can not fall from our trust tree again".

Obsessed.

The official trailer comes after fans spotted a teaser clip at the end of the final episode in the last series.

In the short video, Bryn can be seen trying to make Christmas dinner, but ultimately failing, while the Christmas classic, I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday plays and Stacey and Nessa look on.

A little stressed by the situation, Bryn drops a pan on the floor. Looking up at Stacey and Nessa, he says, "Would you kindly inform everyone that dinner is ever so slightly delayed?"

But first a side note - will we ever find out about what happened on THAT boat trip?

Mathew Horne - a.k.a Gavin, then

Viewers saw Mathew's character, Gavin, fall in love with Stacey pretty quickly - he drove all the way to Barry to surprise her after their night together. We saw the couple laugh, row and welcome a baby. N'aww.

And this is him now...

Mathew's come a long way from playing good ol' Gav - he's now playing Young Mr Grace in Are You Being Served and continues to collaborate with James Corden on a number of projects which included hosting The Brits in 2009.

Joanna smashed it as Stacey; the bubbly girl from Barry who got engaged five (yes, five) times before she met the love of her life Gavin. Bless her.

And this is her now...

Similar to her character Stacey, Joanna settled down in real life too and is now mum to three children - a daughter, Eva, and her two sons, Kit and Noah.

James Corden - a.k.a Smithy, then

Err, James Cordon as Smithy was absolutely hilarious tbh. He kept us entertained with his dancing, love for Gavin and love/hate relationship with Nessa.

And this is him now... (along with the star of one of his majorly successful Carpool Karaoke's, Selena Gomez)

Do we really need to fill you in on this one? No, probably not, because he's everywhere. But incase you've been in hiding under a rock for the past few years, James has been doing pretty much EVERYTHING and has a majorly successful US TV programme - The Late Late show.

Ruth Jones - a.k.a Nessa, then

Oh, what's occurring? Need we say more? Ruth was brilliant as Nessa; fierce and hilarious and as much as we saw how happy she was with Dave, we always knew Smithy was the one that truly had her heart.

And this is her now...

She is arguably one of the funniest Welsh people to have ever lived, and since Gavin and Stacey Ruth has lived in Cardiff with her husband and three grown-up stepchildren. The actress has also been appointed an MBE - go Ruth!

Larry is a prime example of a good actor. Despite seeing him play Archie Mitchell in EastEnders, we couldn't help but fall in love with Mick from Essex. Unlike Archie Mitchell, Mick actually loved his family...

And this is him now...

Since Gavin and Stacey, Larry has embarked upon all kinds of work; he appeared in New Tricks and I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! alongside Scarlett Moffatt.

Alison's character Pam was probably the most iconic of them all. We loved her that she made to pretend to be a vegetarian up until the Christmas special where she finally told everyone she was eating meat - they all (minus Gwen) knew.

Since Gavin and Stacey ended, Alison has appeared in Orphan Black in 2015 and currently lives in Highgate, London with her partner Michael Elwyn.

Ahh, Rob as Bryn was an absolute classic. There's so many hilarious moments of him to choose from but whenever we think of him our first thought is, of course, the Gavin and Stacey fishing trip...

And this is him now...

Long gone are the days of Bryn as a humble telly actor. Rob has since gone on to star in Hollywood movies including The Huntsmen: Winter's War (he played Gryff) and he played Master Phineus in the real life version of Cinderella.

Since the teaser was first spotted, fans have been posting it online and leaving thousands of comments such as, "Not a drill. Repeat. Not! A! Drill! 🎄#GavinAndStacey", and "IT'S HAPPENING #GAVINANDSTACEY."

Now the trailer has dropped, we know viewers will get the chance to find out what has been happening to the Shipmans and the Wests in the last decade, when Uncle Bryn cooks Christmas dinner for over 13 people - does this mean there's some additional characters in the episode? Perhaps a few more children?

The Christmas special came as a surprise to everyone, especially as it had been off air for nine years, and most of the cast members had always dismissed the chance of a reunion.

And even Larry Lamb, when he did his first TV interview on This Morning just after the news broke, admitted he was shocked to get a call from James, and even confessed to crying when he read the script.

Larry said, "All of a sudden I got this Los Angeles number, I answered and we had about a 10 minute chat."

"He [James] said: 'I just want to know if you'll be available in the next little while because it looks like we are going to be doing a Christmas special' - it was quite extraordinary.

"I'd got to the point where I just figured they'd left this jewel as it was and they didn't want to go on - they were only going to do one series in the first place!"

Admitting viewers were in for a treat, he went on to say, "It's amazing what he and Ruth have managed to do, I finally read the script and it really got me."
