EastEnders’ Heather “Hev” Trott (Cheryl Fergison) was loved by best friend Shirley Carter (Linda Henry) as well viewers – before she was cruelly murdered by Ben Mitchell (then played by Joshua Pascoe) way back in 2012.

As well as her close friendship with Shirley, Heather had loads of storylines such as her romance with Minty Peterson (Cliff Parisi) and having a baby with Darren Miller (Charlie G Hawkins).

It's been over a decade since Heather met her untimely demise, so let's have a look about what actress Cheryl has been up to since leaving Albert Square behind.

What happened to Heather Trott on EastEnders?

After a failed marriage with Minty, finding love in the form of Dot Cotton’s (June Brown) nephew Andrew (Ricky Grover), and having an asthma attack that has since become a meme, she was killed by Ben Mitchell.

In scenes that shocked us all, a young Ben had an argument with Heather over his abusive step-mother Stella Crawford’s (Stella Thompson) death, as Heather knew that Ben stitched up his dad Phil (Steve McFadden) saying that he pushed Stella off of a roof when she actually jumped. In his anger, Ben decked Heather over the head with a photo frame and killed her.

She did make a return in 2016, though it was via an old tape of her and Shirley joking around and singing Christmas songs, which was found by Dot Cotton in the laundrette.

Why did Cheryl Fergison leave EastEnders?

Unfortunately, it wasn’t Cheryl’s choice to go. Instead, it was decided by executives of the show at the time to kill Heather off. A source told The Sun when it was announced, “Heather’s character has been hugely popular over the years, but the decision has been taken to cut her out of the show before viewers tire of her.”

What is Cheryl Fergison up to now?

Last year it was revealed that Cheryl has had a complete career U-turn following her axing from EastEnders and now offers singing lessons to students via Zoom – for £60 a pop.

Cheryl who has been open in the past about her struggles to find acting work after EastEnders, advertised her new business venture on TikTok. The Sun reported in an email to potential students she wrote, “You will have an hour with me where you can choose the subject/s that are of interest”.

“It is important that these 1-2-1 sessions are tailor made just for you.” She added that she will respond to “questions you may have regarding my time at EastEnders, or any other roles on stage/TV that I have portrayed and worked on.”

Cheryl, who showed off her impressive pipes when she sang on ITV’s Your Face Sounds Familiar, also helps students with their acting skills from script reading and script writing to confidence building in front of the camera.

Cheryl was the seconded evicted from the Celebrity Big Brother House in 2012, her first appearance on screen since leaving the soap. Comedian Julian Clary was eventually crowned winner with Loose Women's Colleen Nolan coming in second.
