Books have been reimagined as films throughout the ages, but with the number of people subscribing to streaming services constantly growing, creators have more opportunities than ever before to turn the most gripping books into mind-blowing series for our consumption.

We've seen some incredible shows come from the likes of Netflix and Amazon Prime in recent years, but once you're done binge-watching the series, the story doesn't have to end.

Picking up the original book allows you to delve deeper into the author's fictional world, get to know more about the characters and maybe even learn something the series couldn't touch upon. There are also prequels, sequels and in-between series books to wrap your head around, so you can keep enjoying the plot long after you've finished the show.

Here's a selection of books that made up some of the biggest and best TV shows of the past few years, from Orange is the New Black to The Stranger.
