Battling it out to find the £100,000 that was hidden on the island, fans of the show did see castaway Jack kill a seabird and an iguana with a machete, but his fellow campmates struggled, instead prioritising the hunt for money over food.

A show insider told The Sun, “The weight dropped off them without three meals a day – plus the constant walking and swimming.”

One of the show's contestants Elissa, who lost one and a half stone during her time on the show, told the same publication that going without food meant they were “starving to death”, with some members struggling to stand up.

Opening up about her experience on the show, she said, "Weeks of no sleep turns your eyes pink and I was scarred by the sand fly bites - they took two weeks to fade.

"My gums were really inflamed because I couldn't brush my teeth properly for so long. I found a washed up toothbrush on the island, but lost it."

She added, "I went in weighing 65kg, and left weighing 55kg - but since I came back, I'm the heaviest I've ever been because my body was in extreme starvation mode."
