CHECK OUT: Seven heartwarming moments from the Bake Off 2020 final
Bake Off final 2020, heartwarming moments
1) Noel consoling Laura
Laura had a habit throughout Bake Off 2020 of tending to have a mini breakdown when things didn't go as she planned. When her pastry slice melted in the summer heat, Laura took herself off for a moment - but Noel came to console her, telling her about tennis legend Bjorn Borg and encouraging her to put it behind her and focus on the upcoming tasks. Aww!
2) Peter being a bake off super fan
As Peter is the youngest person ever to win Bake Off at 19, we saw throwback photos of the student from his childhood, showing how his love for being had been inspired by watching the show as a youngster - what a lovely full circle moment for him!
3) Peter telling his family about his win
When a contestant wins Star Baker, it's always a sweet moment - so revealing that they've won is a million times more heartwarming! Peter's incredulous announcement to his family was met with screams of delight that could melt even the coldest of ice cream cakes.
4) Prue thinking of Peter like her grandson
Fans of the show were shocked when Prue revealed her age in an episode a few weeks back, with the revelation that she's 80 really leaving us in awe. But in a cute moment last night, Prue joked that she looked on Peter as a sort of grandson, adding that she was really chuffed for him.
5) Peter not telling his housemates he'd won
It's a miracle to us that those in the Bake Off can keep shtum, but for Peter to keep quiet about his big win whilst at university is astonishing! In the credits, it was revealed that his housemates were finding out with the rest of us as the show went out... Amazing.
6) Dave's baby
Another credits scene saw Dave introduce his baby Ronnie, having spoken about the upcoming birth of his first child throughout the show. An adorable video saw Dave with his son resting on his chest - and honestly, we melted faster than a chocolate challenge in the Bake Off tent. Since then, Dave has shared a snap of baby Ronnie holding a whisk in his tiny hand - aww!
7) The dedication to Luis Troyano
In a truly touching moment, the Bake Off producers took the time to remember Luis Troyano, who sadly passed away earlier this year. Luis competed in the fifth series in 2014, making it to the final.
Peter Sawkins was crowned Bake Off's 2020 winner after a super tight final episode where he came head to head with fellow baker Dave Friday. But, it was Peter's showstopper Victoria sponge that won in the eyes of judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood, despite presenting a slightly runny marshmallow in the walnut whip technical challenge.
While all this was happening, Laura was having quite the nightmare as the custard failed to set in her signature bake, and her cake board was the wrong size for her showstopper's Key lime pies.
Oh, Laura.
Thankfully, Paul and Prue loved the taste of Laura's showstopper, despite her assembly problems. However, all of the kerfuffle had left Laura quite emotional, and she took to the freezer, leaning into it as she had a little emotional moment.
Bless her.
After the episode aired, fans flocked to Laura's Twitter to send congratulatory messages about her performance.
One follower wrote, "Well done Laura, you did amazing!
"People sit there and judge but i bet they’ve never achieved bakes to the level you did under those time pressures. All of you did amazing considering you’re amateurs. You were so positive and kind and a ray of sunshine in the tent!"
"Thank you for being your authentic self Laura. Really enjoyed your little mutterings and all that messiness, don’t lose that part! And the finals is a huge wow!" wrote another.

Laura's appearance in the final caused quite the controversy among Bake Off fans last weekwhen firm favourite Hermine was sent home.
Laura received heavy criticism after fellow baker Hermine was asked to leave the tent, with some fans writing the likes of, "Hermine does a few things wrong and its a failure but laura has CONTINUOUSLY done bad and its just accepted?! #GBBO."
In response, Laura took to Twitter to ask fans to be kind.
She wrote, "It's ok to be sad your favourite person didn't go through, but please remember it's not my fault.
"I don't make the decisions."
Poor Laura. To quote Queen Kris Kardashian, "You're doing great, sweetie."
