Anastacia was forced to pull out of Sunday night’s dance off with Melvin Odoom after she ripped her mastectomy scars in a training mishap on Friday.

Medics declared the American singer 'unfit to dance' which forced the elimination decision to a controversial public vote. Odoom was sent home after his tango to M People’s “Movin On Up” failed to impress the judges and British public alike.

The show’s decision sparked outrage from some fans on social media, including professional dancers, James and Ola Jordan, who started a "tweep vote" on who should have bowed out.

James took to Twitter to express his "digust" over the injury rules:

Ola agreed that if you can’t dance, you need to step aside for someone who can:

Odoom was magnanimous in defeat, saying “I love Anastacia, I think she's a great woman, she's a great role model and her health comes first before everything else.”

The American singer said she danced on Saturday despite doctors advising her to rest.

She revealed: “After that [the injury] I was unable to dance again and I was devastated that I couldn't take part in the Dance Off.

“I am so very sad to see Melvin and Janette go, they are the most the most wonderful pair and I will miss Melvin's unique spirit and beautiful smile.”

Anastasia has overcome breast cancer twice, making the tough decision to have double mastectomy in 2013.

The 48-year-old star has been open about the radical surgery and reconstruction work that left her with significant scarring. She hoped Strictly would help her learn to love her body again.

Speaking about her physical limitations ahead of the show, she said: "My operation was kind of a radical one. I had to take my muscles from my back and put them on my front. So my arm movement is very interesting, shall I say."

In classic Revel-Horwood style, Craig had a lot to say about Anastasia’s moves on Saturday, describing her salsa as “clunky” and “haphazard”.

Professional dance partner, Brendan Cole, stepped in to challenge the criticism, saying: “We had a great couple of lifts in there and because of the injuries [pointing to chest area], we decided this morning to change the choreography.”

Anastascia will have to razzle dazzle in next week's movie theme if she's to remain in the public's favour.

What do you make of the Strictly bosses' decision? If you can't dance, should you get a second chance?
