TOWIE icon turned fitness entrepreneur James 'Lockie' Lock has opened up about his lengthy battles with body image in a candid interview on Good Morning Britain, claiming that he believes he has body dysmorphia. In a conversation with hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls James revealed how negative comments on social media have led to him taking steroids and having cosmetic procedures.
Explaining how he believes he has body dysmorphia, James said: “I can acknowledge that there is a problem but I still act a certain way. I know that sometimes I am being irrational. I can sit here now and I know I am a good looking guy and I'm in good shape but I will still find fault. Whether I am on set, or even if I am just going on holiday or I’m doing a shoot for a brand - I will find fault. It’s gotten to a point where I can’t even look at the pictures. My agent will go through the pictures for me because if I go through myself, I will find fault in something, in some aspect. It’s a constant battle with yourself and even though you’re looking in the mirror, you’re not seeing what other people are seeing.”
Opening up about his past procedures, he revealed, "I started off with a hair transplant. I’ve had my ears done before. I’ve had my teeth done… Recently I’ve done another TV show and I injured myself a little bit and the injuries were bad but they probably weren't as bad as the problems I created in my head. So I’ve gone and had my eyes done, my nose done and then you just get carried away.”
We're big fans of Lockie here at Closer online – we have been since his TOWIE debut in 2013 – and we have to put this out there; this kind of raw honesty deserves to be respected and listened by everyone, and we really hope James, in time, starts seeing himself the way his kinder, more positive fans see him.
James Lock updates fans following Challenge 'accident' surgery
We'll be honest, we don't really report on celebrity procedures and surgery these days. Not only does it seem a tad on the dated side, but celeb squads like the TOWIE cast are constantly getting tweaks and tidy-ups (botox, filler, nose jobs, BBLs etc.) and proudly documenting it on their socials (right on ✌️); it just doesn't really feel like news to us.
Also, we're a tad jealous that we can't afford botox touch-ups every three months tbh.
As per, we're rambling, but the point to this rant is, we only report on celebrity cosmetic procedures if they're truly jaw-dropping and, honestly, we're still picking ours off the floor after stumbling across this one of James Lock from December 2024.
"Misrepresented" TOWIE star / OnlyFans content creator / IRL Tarzan James took to his Instagram in October to share the news that he has undergone a procedure on his nose and eyes, and had been recovering in Turkey.
He reminded fans that while filming reality series The Challenge earlier this year, he had an "accident" that left "a bit of a dent" on his nose – something that he has revealed has been bothering him for some time.
He added, "The only way I can rectify it is through surgery."
On Sunday 17 December 2024, James revealed an image of his face two days after the surgery, commenting that he "looks like a different person". To be fair – and we're definitely not surgeons – but we think that's the swelling.
James captioned the post, "Two days after surgery. I don't think I look too bad."
He added, "What we saying? I look like a different person."
He does, and for the record, we definitely still would.
"I will keep you all updated on my recovery," he finished.
Tbh, his "recovery" location looks better than any holiday we've ever been on or will ever go on, so we're not too worried about him. We are glad he's on the mend though.
Naturally, his followers were quick to share their views on his surgery news.
One fan wrote, "You don’t need anything done you look amazing."
Another wrote, "Bless your heart James. I was thinking what on earth does he need done? Hope the surgery goes smoothly."
A third commented, "Love it. You get one body, do what you want to it to make yourself happy."
