She rose to fame as one-fifth of girl band The Saturdays, but since stepping away from the music business in 2014, 35-year-old Rochelle Humes has carved out a successful career for herself as a presenter, most notably becoming a guest host on This Morning.
She’s also one-half of one of the UK’s favourite TV couples alongside JLS star hubby Marvin Humes, 39. The pair, who married in 2012, went on to welcome three adorable kids – Alaia, 11, Valentina, seven, and Blake, four.
While Rochelle, 35, is focused on the world of television and Marvin has his radio show, the couple have also collaborated on projects like The Hit List. But despite their hectic schedules, Rochelle tells Closer how she and Marvin always strive to maintain a healthy work/life balance.
She says, ‘We try to set boundaries, and we make sure that we don’t talk shop at home once we’e all done for the day. We’ll let that roll into tomorrow. I think it’s important to protect it. If it all rolls into one, then we’ll be up working on something all the time. At least by five o’clock, by the time kids are having dinner, we’ll make sure that work questions are done.’
The couple, who have been an item since 2010, also know the importance of a date night, and always try to find time in their busy schedule for a romantic dinner, even if it’s at home. Rochelle says, ‘Sometimes it’s just when the kids are in bed, we sit down and make something together. We listen to some nice music while we’re doing it, have a bottle of wine, but it’s quality time, our phones are on charge upstairs.’
Despite having three kids and a very hectic lifestyle, Rochelle hasn’t completely shut the door on having another little one. She says, ‘If you asked me, I’d say I want children forever, because I get really sad every year that they grow up. Three we can handle, but if we chucked a fourth one in there, I don’t know, the world would fall apart a little bit. I will always be broody, so I can’t be the one to make that decision.’
And her homelife certainly hasn’t held back her career. As well as her work on This Morning, Rochelle is the founder of her own lifestyle brand, Little Coco, and her own management company, The RH Group – which manages husband Marvin.
However, despite all her success, there’s one show that Rochelle has absolutely no desire to do – Strictly Come Dancing. Not only would she simply not have the time, her experience on the Christmas Special back in 2013 has put the presenter off for life. She tells Closer, ‘I basically got dragged around the dance floor by the lovely Ian Waite, and I was the most nervous I could be. I was in a bad way, I don’t know how anybody does that, week in, week out. I could never... and the respect that I have for the people that do Strictly, it’s just beyond!’
Rochelle’s close friend JB Gill, who performed alongside Marvin for years in JLS, is currently dancing up a storm with professional partner, Amy Dowden. While Rochelle won’t be taking to the dance floor anytime soon, she did go to a recording to support JB. She says, ‘We went to watch JB last week, and he was so brilliant – he didn’t look nervous at all!’
Recently, Rochelle added a 12-month brand ambassador role with Dylon Detergent to her jam-packed schedule. She says, ‘I’m very particular before committing to work with somebody. When we first agreed to do a partnership together, I did a day at their HQ, and I looked at the science behind it before I then trialled it for a while, and it’s actually mind-blowing. They sent me a lovely parcel, and the other day my mum stole it, she was like, “Oh great, I’ll have that!”’
This is a dream collaboration for Rochelle, who has become known for her chic outfits on This Morning, and she’s passionate about taking care of her clothes. ‘I hold on to pieces for quite a long time, and I try to get good with clearing out. But then there are those pieces that you go, “I just can’t get rid of it”. They’re the things that I really try to take care of best as I can. And typically, I would have sent them to the dry cleaners or just looked after them a little bit better, because they were like investments to me, but now Dylon has answered all my prayers.’
Rochelle Humes is the official brand ambassador for Dylon Detergent, a new laundry detergent that makes your clothes look and feel like new again in only 10 washes. Now available in major retailers
