Genuine question: is there anything Montell Douglas can’t do? She’s got four Olympic medals for bobsleighing, she used to hold the record for the 100 metres sprint, she kills it as Fire in the Gladiators reboot, and recently she made it all the way to the quarter finals of Strictly Come Dancing’s 20th series alongside Johannes Radebe.
Now, she’s traded Johannes in for Kai Widdrington and the pair are currently performing all over the country for the Strictly tour.
We sat down with Montell before she set off on tour and aside from admitting to some light theft, she also shed some light on the rumours between her and fellow Gladiator, Phantom— AKA Toby Olubi.
We promise, she brought him up. All we did was innocently ask her who from Gladiators she think should compete on Strictly Come Dancing next.
She said, ‘I’d actually pick Phantom because he loves to dance. He’s got great rhythm, and he's hilarious. He’d be great for the show.
'He is beautiful, for starters. Like all my DMs are about him. Every time I put a picture up with him in it, my DMs explode. Everyone wants to be set up with him! I mean, he’s six foot six, ripped, beautiful and has an athlete mindset.
'He would be perfect for the show and I know he’d love to do it. I guarantee he’d have women voting for him!’
He sounds like our dream man, but is he Montell’s? Seeing as they’re both stunning and single, we obviously asked her in there was any sparks between them.
‘It’s so funny, if I put a picture up of him my friend goes, “so when are we planning the wedding?” Constantly. People are always trying to set us up. But there’s nothing between us, he’s like a brother to me.
'We've got so much love and respect for each other. I wish we did love each other romantically, I wish we did fancy each other because it would be great, we look good together, but we don’t! We just don’t at all.’
Our main takeaway from that answer is that Phantom is single, so we’ll have to interview him next.
