But while some hopefuls are clearly using the show as a platform for fame, 26-year-old Lucy is all about the music.
Speaking exclusively to Closer Online, Essex-born Lucy admitted people like Ryan Ruckledge – who was thrown out at bootcamp for being drunk – frustrate her.
She said: “I think some people think, ‘Yeah, it’s a TV show and if I act like this…’ It is frustrating, but I think this year there are a lot of people who are taking it seriously and really want it.”
Despite her incredible voice, Lucy is very aware of the talent this year – particularly in the girls category.
“I feel ready,” she insisted. “I feel like everyone’s good, but everyone’s different as well. I know myself now, but is it nerve-wracking to be up against the girls.”
Although the ITV show is still in the audition stages, if Lucy makes it through to live shows she’ll be mentored by Rita Ora.
Rita, 24, may be an international superstar, but she’s not the judge Lucy was hoping for.
Lucy continued: “Rita’s great, she really is, but I wanted Simon. The reason I’m doing it this year is because of Simon, I wanted to learn from him.
“Rita was definitely my second choice, but you have to remember that, in the industry, she’ll be my competition – even though I don’t see it like that now.”
And, while some contestants go onto I’m a Celebrity and Celebrity Big Brother after the show, Lucy knows exactly where she wants to be in five years.
“Touring,” she said. I would like to have an album, maybe two, and just be touring around the world. My ultimate dream is to have my own show at Wembley Stadium. That would be so fulfilling for me.”
The X Factor continues tonight at 7pm on ITV.
