Every year the winner of the X Factor releases a cover of a well known track, which has usually been given a dramatic, pop makeover.

Last year Ben Haenow covered OneRepublic’s Something I need, the year before Sam Bailey recorded her own version of Skyscraper by Demi Lovato, and Shontell’s Impossible was recreated by James Arthur in 2011.

And it looks like this year will be no different as Simon Cowell has already picked the track the champ will release as their debut single.

According to The Sun, whoever wins this year’s series will record a version of Bob Dylan’s Forever Young.

A source said: “Simon is aware that the song choice will split opinion. Some will argue he is introducing Bob and the song itself to a new, younger audience. But arguably the majority will feel the opposite.”

But the insider pointed out that many music fans will be against using such a classic for The X Factor.

They added: “Bob stands for everything that The X Factor does not, which means hearing the track will be tough for many musos to go through.”

Last week saw Keira Weathers and Seann Miley Moore leave the competition for good – and it’s thought that another two will go tonight.

The X Factor continues at 8pm on ITV.
