Here we are again - bringing you the best films and TV shows to watch this weekend.

This weekend marks the 15th anniversary of the horrific 9/11 attacks in the US. To commemorate it, ITV are showing United 93, the dramatisation of events that occurred on board one of the hijacked planes.

On Friday, Joanna Lumley is back, taking us through the most beautiful places in the world - this new series kicks off in Japan. Saturday stalwarts The Jonathan Ross Show and The X Factor are here to keep us entertained, alternatively the Last Night Of The Proms and Paralympics 2016 will be showing if that's more your sort of thing.

Don't miss the next episodes of Poldark and Victoria, either!

Friday 9 September

Joanna Lumley's Japan (New Series), ITV, 9pm

Now 70 (amaze), Joanna Lumley is still traipsing around the world with far more energy than we could ever muster. For her latest travel series she heads to Japan to explore the country's islands. Starting in Hokkaido in Japan's 'wild north' - home to some of the country's endangered animals. "Every moment was thrilling, fascinating and often moving," she says of her trip.

Mock The Week (New Episodes), BBC2, 10pm

In a brand new Friday night slot, Hugh Dennis, Dara and co are back for more hilarity – casting wry eyes over current events. "2016 has been quiet so far so we're just praying the patron saint of news is watching over us," they jest. Ho ho.

The Lost Boys, W, 11pm

Well, why not? This may be 30 years old next year (oh my) but it's still great and we love a bit of 80s flashback. Sleep all day, party all night, never grow old, never die. It's fun to be a vampire in this classic coming-of-age flick.

Saturday 10 September

The Jonathan Ross Show (New Series), ITV, 9.30pm

The big man is back for a brand new series – spanning 11 Saturday nights and ensuring we stay glued to ITV all evening after the X Factor. So, who's he got to kick things off then? Try Renée Zellweger – big news at the moment thanks to the resurrection of Bridget Jones – plus her not unattractive co-star Patrick Demsey.

Sharing sofa space and no doubt on the receiving end of a Ross-style ego massaging is also comic Aisling Bea, screen ledge John Malkovich and BRIT award winner Tom Odell. Let the chat commence.

The X Factor, ITV, 8pm

It's the last of the audition shows (that was quick!) so not long left for the judges to choose who they want to see at Boot Camp next weekend. Cue a few sob stories, mixed in with the odd decent one. And Dermot back on hosting duties like the good old days…

Last Night Of The Proms, BBC2/1, 7.15/8.50pm

The magic of the 'Last Night of the Proms' is here – a traditional singalong in Hyde Park with a big-screen link-up to the Royal Albert Hall. Mr Musicals Michael Ball will host the shindig (but of course), with lots of musical stars taking part as well - like Rick Astley and All Saints. Retro!

Paralympics 2016: Highlights, C4, 7.30pm

Clare Balding brings us highlights of the Paralympics in Rio. All the best moments are here, which is great if we've missed stuff because of being at work.

DON'T MISS: Each Highlights ep is followed by The Last Leg: Live From Rio at 8pm – where Adam Hills, Josh Widdicombe and Alex Brooker give events their special spin. Then Paralympics 2016 Live at 9pm

I, Robot, E4, 9pm

This 2004 classic is set in a future earth and stars Will Smith as a cop by the not-so cool name of Detective Spooner, who thinks one of the trendy new robot beings are to blame for a crime he is investigating. These robots are super creepy and rather life-like, and frankly we'll do our own chores thanks. Everything hits the fan, big style.

Will Smith

United 93, ITV, 10.45pm

This is a real life account of the events on United Flight 93 – one of the planes hijacked on 9/11 that crashed near Pennsylvania when passengers foiled the terrorist plot. To make the movie as authentic as possible, the director cast a number of people involved in the actual tragedy on September 11 2001 to play themselves.

9/11: The Falling Man, More4, 9pm

It's 15 years since September 11, 2001 – the day that changed America forever. One of the most unforgettable images from that day is that of a falling man, frozen in mid-air – perfectly parallel with the lines of the World Trade Centre. This moving docu follows the trail of that harrowing image, from the photographer who took it to the identity of the man and how at first the photograph was banned.

Sunday 11 September

Poldark, BBC1, 9pm

Tonight's is an episode full of angst, wistful flashbacks to jollier times and close-ups of Ross Poldark (not complaining) begging the humourless judge for forgiveness over that shipwreck hoo-hah from the last series.

Baying crowd in place, it's time for everyone to get down to court to hear Poldark's fate (where Demelza has a funny turn and confesses to her mate she is "with child" again, oh my). Elsewhere, amuse yourself with the comings and goings of new cast member John Nettles' Cornish accent…

Did You Know? Aidan Turner who plays Ross Poldark says: "It was lovely to come back knowing that the first series was popular. It's a real morale boost and also flattering because we all worked really hard on the first series and it seems like it has paid off." Sure did, Ade!

Victoria, ITV, 9pm

There's much excitement when the new stamp is unveiled ("Everybody who wants to send a letter will have to lick my face," comments Queen Vic. Brilliant). Elsewhere, it seems the Queenie fancies a bit of Prince Albert (could it be the fancy tache?) – but of course things are not plain sailing.
