So once you've had enough of the sunshine, why not get inside to entertain yourselves with some of these great programmes and films on this weekend!
Saturday 7th May
The Hollow Crown: The War Of The Roses, 9pm on BBC2
It’s the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death and everyone’s going a bit mad for the great Bard. This – filmed in windswept castles and muddy open fields – charts the 15th century struggles for England’s throne… But wait! It stars a humpbacked Benedict Cumberbatch, and it’s also got Hugh Bonneville, Keeley Hawes and Judi Dench in it.
Prometheus, 9pm on Channel 4
Charlize Theron, Idris Elba and Michael Fassbender (as a creepy robot) star in this prequel-of-sorts to Ridley Scott’s Alien films. It sees a group of explorers on a search for the origins of humankind. They visit a planet that was marked on an ancient star map, but what they find there isn’t very friendly. Gulp!
And if you want more space action, Alien is on straight after this! (11.25PM on Channel 4)
Britain’s Got Talent, 8pm on ITV1
We’re five weeks in; surely nothing else can possibly get the judges lunging for that golden buzzer? Let’s see, in another fun-packed show.
Sunday 8th May
Keeping Up With The Kardashians, 9pm on E! (New Series)
Once again it’s time to focus on life’s trivialities, Kardashian-style - as the entertaining season 12 is here. It’s two months after Kim has given birth to gorgeous baby Saint and she has a bag of cabbages with her (“I was kind of in the shower and some milk came out,” she says). Adding: “I’m not going to lie, one is one, and two is 20. I’m so tired…” Though it’s hard to feel too sorry for this loaded mega-star who must live her every move on camera.
Elsewhere, Scott has plans to host a dinner bash for the fam, no one’s keen on Rob’s new missus Blac Chyna and Khloe’s being grilled about Lemar again… Fasten your seatbelts!
British Academy Television Awards, 8pm on BBC1
Graham Norton’s on hosting duties at this annual star-studded bash where actor-types get handed gongs for being great, and wondrous TV shows of the past year are celebrated. Nominees this year include Doctor Foster (but of course), Poldark, GBBO, First Dates, Gogglebox, Humans, Peter Kay’s Car Share – and it’s Sheridan Smith vs Suranne Jones. May the best man / woman win!
Attenborough At 90, 7pm on BBC1
He’s still scrabbling about in the undergrowth at 90, and now Kirsty Young talks to the legendary Sir David Attenborough, blowing out 90 candles this year. He’ll chat about his magnificent career in this one-hour spesh, as well as the inspiring people he’s met and his incredible animal encounters.
Don’t miss the other Attenborough hits on the box this weekend:
A Blank On The Map - Saturday, 6.30PM on BBC2
Lost Gods Of Easter Island - Saturday, 7.30pm on BBC2
The Durrells, 8pm on ITV1 (Last in Series)
Everything is looking most rosy; Sven has proposed to Mrs Durrell and wants to get married in two (TWO!) weeks. He survives a grilling from her brood, but then Mrs D stumbles across something awfully shocking that might explain his reluctance to get down to “business” before the I Do's…
Hillsborough, 9pm on BBC2
Fans, survivors, family members and police officers tell the full story of one of the most devastating tragedies in British sporting history. The fact that the recent court verdict exonerated Liverpool fans (and the 96 who lost their lives) from all blame, makes this a topical must-see.
Greatest Ever 90s Movies, 9pm on Channel 5
Stand by for a whole day of fab ‘90s movies, including this almost three-hour (!) run down of the best of the best. Strap yourselves in!
Don’t miss these classics either:
Ace Venture Pet Detective – Sunday, 2pm on Channel 5
The Fifth Element – Sunday, 3.35pm on Channel 5
Robin Hood Prince Of Thieves – Saturday, 6pm on Channel 5
We Bought A Zoo, 5.30pm on E4
Matt Damon stars as Benjamin Mee – a man coming to terms with the death of his wife. He decides to make a fresh start by buying a new house – expect the house his young daughter picks out comes complete with a zoo. Despite some reservations, Benjamin and family move in and try to restore the knackered old place to its former glory. Easier said than done. (Also starring Scarlett Johansson).
