FYI: There’s a LOT happening on TV this Sunday, so maybe it’s time for a duvet day?
Mr Selfridge, Friday 11th March, 9pm on ITV
It was always the plan to end Mr Selfridge at the end of series four. So says Jeremy Piven, owner of that famous ‘tache (probably quite keen to get going with the shaving gel now). It’s been the darkest series yet - all about Harry’s downfall and losing that slippery grip on his empire (all thanks to those pesky fair maidens and a gambling habit). We’ve loved having Katherine Kelly back as Lady Mae, but all good things and all that. Prepare for tears.
You’re Back In The Room, Saturday 12th March, 8:30pm on ITV
Despite this being slammed as “nonsense” by some cross critics when series 1 was on, we love this silly show where members of the public are hypnotized to do daft things on the telly (though, erm, for legal reasons we can’t actually watch them being put under..). Tonight they’re making cocktails and spelling words in flowers, and there’s a very entertaining moment when one hypnotized woman tells presenter Phillip Schofield he “thinks he’s better than he really is”, and that he’s 62 (some 10 years out there...)
I Am Cait, Sunday 13th March, 9pm on E!
This may not have the glam and gossip of KUWTK, but I Am Cait isn’t about all that – it’s an emotional and important series showing how Caitlyn Jenner is coping with the transitioning process. It’s back for a second run and we catch up with Caitlyn and her girlfriends – including the gorgeous 18-year-old transitioning Elle Giselle - as they hit the road for a trip to the Grand Canyon and Santa Fe. Her friends want to push her to face some uncomfortable questions, especially when it comes to her sexuality, which prompts Cait to say: “I can’t see myself dating a woman in the future.” What does that mean for his relationship with Candis?
Indian Summers, Sunday 13th March, 9pm on Channel 4
We loved this when it first appeared last year – the tale of super-rich Brits in 19th century colonial India had plenty of intrigue and period drama shenanigans, and now it’s back for a second series. The fab Julie Walters returns as socialite Cynthia Coffin, while the likes of James Fleet, Rachel Griffiths and Art Malik join the cast. And it’s all go in this first ep – there’s a murder, terrorism and steamy adultery as the locals start to rise up and challenge those posh Brit snobbos. I say, steady on!
The Power Of TOWIE, Sunday 13th March, 9pm on ITVBe
Yes, folks. TOWIE hits the 200 episode mark tonight, and this milestone event is being celebrated with a special documentary – narrated by original Essex alpha male Mark Wright – about how it became a televisual phenomenon, along with faces past and present (Amy Childs, Joey Essex and Gemma Collins included) putting in their two-penniesworth about the show’s greatness.
Houdini & Doyle, Sunday 13th March, 10:15pm on ITV
Stephen Mangan (who we always love) plays Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, while House star Michael Weston is Harry Houdini in this 10-part series about two iconic characters of yesteryear. Escape artist Houdini refuses to believe in the paranormal, while Conan Doyle (who created Sherlock Holmes) desperately wants to find a way of communicating with the dearly departed. Rest assured you will enjoy this immensely.
The Night Manager, Sunday 13th March, 9pm on BBC1
Things are hotting up in The Night Manager, with Pine and Jed getting closer and closer (and we mean close) while Roper is doing more shady deals. Back in Blighty, Angela is piecing together who’s selling what to who, but she’s afraid that Pine might blow the mission. Over on the other side in Doctor T, things are a tad more genteel, although there’s bad news in the Scatcherd household – Sir Roger is taken ill and his awful son, Louis, has designs on Mary. The good Doc is not impressed.
