Harry Potter fans rejoice! Or should we say, Newt Scamander fans rejoice, because today we’ve been given the first glimpse at footage from the upcoming film penned by Potter’s author J.K Rowling, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Set in the same magical world, the snippet of footage has of course sent the Harry Potter fandom into meltdown, and is already trending on Twitter and Facebook.

And although the plot doesn’t follow the tale of Harry and his Hogwarts friends and foes, it does capture the same dark and intense feel.

Which makes sense, considering it’s not only produced by the same company Warner Brothers, but has many of the people who worked on the incredibly successful eight-part Harry Potter movie franchise involved again, including David Yates who directed the final four films.

The clip shows Newt (played by the dashing Eddie Redmayne) looking a little bit dishevelled as he obviously begins wreaking havoc all over 1920s New York, and the voice over teases:

“Yesterday a wizard entered New York with a case, a case full of magical creatures, and unfortunately some have escaped.”

Well, isn’t this all very exciting?

The film is the first script by Rowling, and focuses on the story of Scamander, the author of Harry’s infamous same-titled school book, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

J. K. Rowling took to Twitter today to show her excitement about the release, saying:

Colin Farrell and Katherine Waterson are also set to star in the film, which is due to hit screens on the 18th November 2016.
