Any Disney fan worth their salt has seen all three of the Toy Story movies by this point in their lives.
And they will have already read the devastating theory about Andy’s absent father.
But, as it turns out, there’s plenty more to consider when it comes to the former owner of Woody the Cowboy and Buzz Lightyear.
Particularly when it comes to what happened AFTER he gave his toys to Bonnie.
Well, there’s a pretty compelling theory that he dropped out of college and moved to Pawnee, Indiana - where he became…
Yup, you guessed it; Andy Dwyer.
Andy Dwyer, for those who DON’T know, is Chris Pratt’s character from the hit comedy series, Parks & Recreation.
In the series, Andy is a childish musician with BIG dreams of becoming a police officer - not to mention a whole lotta love to give.
He later went on to create and star in his own children’s TV show as ‘Johnny Karate’, a martial arts trained character of his own invention.
Writing on Reddit, PixMis14 explains: “Okay, so we all know, Andy Dwyer wanted to be a cop. Maybe this is due to Toy Story Andy's two friends as a child being law enforcers, a space ranger (Buzz) and a crime-stopping cowboy (Woody).
“Maybe Bert Macklin (PaR Andy's FBI persona) is his attempt to encapsulate his love of law enforcement as a child.”
The imaginative Redditor continues: “We also know that 18-year-old TS Andy was reluctant to give up his toys, and in his last scene, showed just how childish he really is.
“Maybe he never really lost that childishness?”
It’s actually a pretty convincing theory, isn’t it?
Particularly when you factor in that Toy Story’s Andy has an electric guitar, as well as plenty of guitar posters scattered around his room.
After all, Parks And Recreation’s Andy was the guitarist and lead singer of Mouse Rat; we imagine his love of music would have been something that began back in his childhood.
There’s also the fact that, in Parks & Rec, we DO meet the parents of his wife, April (Aubrey Plaza), but we never meet Andy’s family.
Now we know that Toy Story’s Andy never spent all too much time with his father, with him out of the picture since the very first film.
This would mean that, if this theory is correct, Andy’s mum sadly passed away sometime between the events of Toy Story 3 and Parks & Recreation.
We guess that would explain why he dropped out of college, wouldn’t it?
Sob.
Throw in Andy’s fixation on father figures, not to mention his multiple identities (all of which feel like the make-believe games of a little kid), and you have a recipe for success.
Sure, there’s no denying that there are a few holes in the story (for example, where’s Andy’s little sister disappeared to?), but we’re seriously on board with it.
And we’re not the only ones.
“Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes,” one Reddit user commented excitedly.
Another added: “Thank you, this is AMAZING!”
Do you think Toy Story’s Andy grew up to become Andy Dwyer from Parks & Recreation? Or is this just wishful thinking on fans’s behalf?
