With a 45 year history, you can bet there's plenty of secrets about Emmerdale that you didn't know
Even if you consider yourself a bonafide superfan, chances are they're a few stones unturned in your Emmerdale knowledge – after all, 45 years is the second longest soap legacy in the UK.
In recent years, Emmerdale has been at the forefront of some of the most socially poignant storylines in Soapland, including introducing its first trans character Matty (formerly Hannah) Barton and Victoria Sugden's violent rape earlier this year.
But before that, Emmerdale has been pushing boundaries since as far back as the 70s.

The sleepy Yorkshire village where Emmerdale is set was originally called Beckindale, but it changed it's name to Emmerdale (after the Emmerdale Farm) in 1994 after the dramatic plane crash in the village...
