As actress Brooke Vincent prepares to go on maternity leave
Coronation Street fans have known for a while that Sophie Webster would be leaving Weatherfield soon, as the actress who plays her - Brooke Vincent - is expecting her first baby. Brooke, who has played Sophie since 2004, is eight months pregnant with her footballer boyfriend Kean Bryan's baby, and will be leaving the soap for her maternity leave very soon.
Although show bosses are keen to keep her exit storyline under wraps, a TV insider has revealed what's going to go down - and it turns out that Sophie won't be leaving the cobbles alone...

Rana Habeeb DIES
Fan favourite Rana Habeeb was killed off in March following the dramatic collapse of the factory roof. In an even more tragic twist, the storyline was set for the day of her wedding to Kate Connor. Corrie bosses have revealed the move was actress Bhavna Limbachia's idea, as she wants to work on other projects.
Wayne Hayes returns to Weatherfield
Nearly two decades after he left our screens and the Cropper's fold for good, Wayne Hayes is back on Coronation Street as a heath and safety inspector, who will reach loggerheads with Roy when he puts surrogate daughter Carla Connor under the microscope.Now 27, the character will be played by actor Adam Barlow (not to be confused with the character, Adam Barlow).
Rosie Webster returns to Weatherfield
Actress Helen Flanagan has confirmed that her character Rosie Webster will "definitely" be returning to Weatherfield – it's just a question of when. The actress admits she's been missing her Corrie cast mates and plans to get back ASAP after giving birth to daughter Delilah last year.
Liz MacDonald takes a break
Beverly Callard confided to Loose Women's Christine Lampard that she would be taking some time off from playing Liz MacDonald in order to focus on other new, exciting acting opportunities – but that she WOULD be back. "This is amazing. As an actor you get offered scripts all the time. But because I'm contracted to Coronation Street , which I love, it's very difficult to, even if you love a script, it's hard to say 'yes'," she said."Everything has to be juggled. This script came to me and I said to my producer at Coronation Street 'I can't say no to this, please let me do this'. It's a brand new play with four grown up women in it of an age."
Michelle Connor leaves Weatherfield
After thirteen years on the cobbles, Kym Marsh, who plays Michelle Connor, has announced that she's leaving Corrie to focus on pastures new. "It's been an incredibly difficult decision but it feels like the right time," she said. "When I was lucky enough to be offered four episodes I could never in my wildest dreams have thought I'd be here 13 years later."Currently caught in the middle of the dramatic storyline between her two sisters, Carla and Kate Connor, it's not sure when she's set to leave, but she'll be sorely missed.
Norris Cole returns to Weatherfield
Actor Michael Hebden will reprise his long term role as Norris Cole after he was taken seriously ill following a heart attack in 2017. Welcome back, Norris!
Gina Sneddon leaves Weatherfield
Actress Connie Hyde leaves Coronation Street after the dramatic collapse of the Underworld factory roof, leaving many speculating that she'd been killed in the tragedy.However, despite sustaining serious injuries, show bosses confirmed she'll survive and instead walk away from the soap alive, with the option to return in the future.
Kate Connor leaves Weatherfield
After her recent mega dramatic storyline – where her fiancée Rana Habeeb was killed when the Underworld factory roof collapsed – actress Faye Brooks has also decided to make her exit from the show. "Thanks to everyone for your amazing support, but after 4 fabulous years in Weatherfield it's time for me to explore new opportunities," she said in a statement on Twitter.
Robert Preston leaves Weatherfield
With his on screen wife Kym Marsh announcing her departure earlier in the year, it seems Tristan Gemmill, who plays Robert Preston is following suit. "Folks, I just wanted to let you know that the time has come for me to hang up the chef's gear and head for pastures new," he wrote on Twitter."There is still a lot of drama & shenanigans to come for Robert but I will be leaving @itvcorrie later in the year."
Sinead Tinker leaves Weatherfield
In a particularly difficult week for Coronation Street bosses, Katie McGlynn, who plays Sinead Tinker, announced she was quitting. "Katie has just been nominated for a British Soap Award so it's a big loss and not what bosses would have wanted to hear," a source told The Sun."She's been central to a number of key storylines this last year or so and will need replacing urgently."
Bernie Winter arrives in Weatherfield
Gemma and Paul Winter's mum Bernie is set to arrive on the cobbles, with the character "set to ruffle a few feathers" after failing to show up to collect Gemma when she tried to leave the village.Bernie is played by Casualty's Jane Hazelgrove, who in fact began her career on Corrie 34 years ago, playing Sue Clayton.
Bethany Platt leaves
Lucy Fallon announced in May that she would be leaving her role as Bethany Platt, daughter of Sarah Platt, when her contract expires in 2020."It's hard to put into words how much this show means to me," she said in a statement."I've made lifelong friends with some of the most talented and hardworking people in the industry, I've had some terrific and immensely important storylines and I've laughed with the best people everyday.
Fiona Middleton returns
Angela Griffiths will return to her role as Fiona Middleton later this summer to drop a huge bombshell on Steve McDonald – that Emma Brooker (Alexandra Mardell) may be his daughter. "Angela's return is short and sweet but it has huge implications for Steve," a source told The Sun."She's back on screens and will find out that the dates that he was with Fiona tally up to when Emma was born."
Josh Tucker returns
It's not good news for David Platt, who is set to face his rapist Josh Tucker when he returns from prison.Josh was put away 18 months ago after he drugged and assaulted David after a night out, but actor Ryan Clayton will be returning to Corrie to reprise his role.
According to The Sun, Sophie's aunt Debbie - sister of her dad Kevin Webster - will be returning with bad news for Kev. There's been a "death in the family", but that Debbie has been left a sizeable chunk of change and wants to share it around.
After Sophie hears her ex-girlfriend and current pal Kate Connor, whose wife Rana died on their wedding day, talking about her travelling plans, Sophie's ears prick up and she realises that the "perfect opportunity" has just fallen into her lap.
She'll ask her girlfriend Paula to go with her, but the source says that she'll decide against it at the "eleventh hour", leading Sophie to ask Kate to take her place.
This also fits in with Faye Brookes' plans to leave Corrie, as she announced inApril 2019 that she would be quitting the soap as Kate Connor after four years.

Taking to Twitter, Faye wrote, "Thanks to everyone for your amazing support, but after 4 fabulous years in Weatherfield it's time for me to explore new opportunities, I've loved playing Kate Connor, but she needs a break for a little while and so with a song in my heart I'm off to pastures new. #kana #corrie♥️."
This comes after the news that Faye has split from her fiancé, Gareth Gates, after seven years together. A source close to the couple said, "Faye and Gareth are both extremely sad about their relationship ending. They still care very much about each other and want to remain friends, but the wedding has been called off. Her family and close friends have been supporting her through the split."
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
