Simon Cowell – who we all know is a big fan of dogs – was asked to take part in a quiz alongside Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams on Britain’s Got More Talent on Tuesday evening.

For every correct answer, the judge would be awarded with a cute pup – because who wouldn’t want that as a prize!

However, when Stephen Mulhern moved on to round two, and Simon had been cuddling an adorable Dalmatian pup for some time, the BGT judge decided it was time for the pups to leave.

"This one is frightened. I'm going to put this one down,” Simon told Stephen, worried for tiny puppy.

Simon then proceeded to take the puppy off set to somewhere more quiet and was reportedly overheard telling production staff: “They shouldn’t be doing this”.

Amanda also admitted on the show that her pup was scared too.

And viewers weren’t happy with the decision either, as they took to Twitter to express their opinion:

Stephen apologised at the end of the show to viewers saying: "Very quickly, I'd like to apologise if we upset anybody with the puppies.

"Obviously that wasn't our intention in anyway shape or form.

"So if we have upset you in anyway I do apologise on behalf of Britain's Got More Talent."

Simon later took to Twitter to apologise for the pups being put on live TV, saying: “I wasn't aware puppies were going to be on BGMT tonight. Trust me, it won't happen again. They're on their way home now”.
