According to The Mirror, Shayne has had his contract extended another year and will be on our screens until at least July 2017.
At this year’s National Television Awards, Shayne won Best Newcomer beating Gemma Atkinson (Emmerdale), Parry Glasspool (Hollyoaks) and Richard Blackwood (EastEnders).
Insiders have claimed that Shayne is on a salary of around £80,000 a year, but will not be given a pay rise in his new contract.
An insider has told The Mirror: “Ever since he joined the cast, Shayne has impressed bosses with his professional attitude”.
“They can see he is a massive asset to Coronation Street and that he has a large fan base.”
The former X Factor winner has fast become a fan favourite, with fans taking to Twitter to show their affection:
Last week viewers saw Aidan Connor (Shayne’s character) reunite with his on-off love interest Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) after rescuing her from Richie O’Driscoll (James Midgley).
And according to The Sun, Catherine has recently secured her place on the show for another year too – so what could this mean for Aidan and Eva?
