The 59-year-old actor played Carrie's on/off/on again boyfriend Mr Big in the series and he claims his character never tried to be something he wasn't.
Speaking to an Australian news website, Chris said: "[Mr Big] was always honest about himself – he never cheated on her. The relationship just didn't work, and he went on to get married while went on to – how many boyfriends did she have? She was such a wh*re!
"There's a misconception that Carrie was a victim of him, and that's not the case – she was a strong, smart woman."
Chris also discussed the second Sex and the City film, and the negative reviews it received.
He said: "The critical response was overwhelmingly negative. There was not one good review of that film. Not one. And I think it was very hurtful for the girls, because [the reviews] got personal."

On why the film did't do as well as expected, Chris said: "I don't think it was a bomb, but I think because they're greedy, it didn't make as much money as they wanted. But I think it was considered an indulgence and a distraction because it hit right when the recession happened."
After Sarah Jessica Parker sent some hints via social media this week, hinting at a third instalment, Chris declined to comment, saying he won't believe it's happening until he hears 'action!' on set.
