The 33-year-old will star as Joni Preston – the current girlfriend of feisty Tracy Barlow’s ex-husband Robert.

But former Girls Aloud singer Sarah has confessed Joni wasn’t always going to be with Robert.

Speaking to Free Radio, Sarah said: “[Stuart Blackburn, producer] came down to London and we literally just threw a load of ideas out there.

“At one point I was going to, possibly, come between the lesbian girls. At one point I was a lesbian, but it didn’t happen!”

Despite the plot change, Sarah has promised fireworks for her debut on the ITV soap.

She previously revealed it’s not long after Joni’s arrival in Weatherfield that she and Tracy get into a fight.

“It’s totally choreographed,” Sarah added. “We didn’t actually make contact. Health and safety!

Sarah previously appeared in the St. Trinian's film

“We actually had a stunt woman showing me how to do a realistic fake slap.”

Sarah’s acting CV includes roles in both of the St. Trinian’s films and the 2009 BBC Drama Freefall.

She’ll make her first appearance in Corrie tomorrow night [23 July]. Are you looking forward to Sarah joining the show?
