Ryan Thomas has been on our screens playing Jason Grimshaw in Coronation Street for half his life.

And now the actor has decided it’s time to move away from the cobbles.

Speaking to The Mirror at last year’s Pride of Britain Awards, Ryan hinted at a possible move to Hollywood. He said: “Going to Hollywood is a dream so I’m going to see what happens. We can always dream.”

However, it’s now been revealed that the real reason behind Ryan’s exit from the soap is to do with a former cast member.

"Well let's get one thing straight - it wasn't to go to Hollywood, which everyone seems to think it was all about," he told OK!.

So what was the reason behind his decision?

On-screen dad Terence Maynard – aka Tony Stewart – had something to do with it, apparently.

"One of the main reasons it came around is probably a lot to do with Tez who plays my dad,” he added.

“I felt like I was working with a movie star and I was doing something that wasn't Coronation Street when I was working with him. And I want a taste of something new and I want a different experience."

Keen to step out of his comfort zone, Ryan also said that the storylines can become quite repetitive and he feels the soap is like a “bubble”.

"It's the best bubble in the world and I feel like now is the time. It's just time to pop that bubble, test myself and take myself out of my comfort zone a little bit,” Ryan explained.

We’ll certainly miss seeing Ryan in Weatherfield, but we’re excited to see what he’ll go on to do next!
