Outnumbered is gearing up for its fifth and final series - and the new trailer has really hammered home what it's like to watch our children grow up from children to young adults before our eyes.

The show came to our screens six years ago, planting audiences smack-bang into the centre of family life in Sue and Pete Brockman's home.

And, while Hugh Dennis and Claire Skinner look pretty much exactly the same for the final series, the same can't be said for their on-screen children.

Fans have seen actors Tyger Drew-Honey, who plays Jake, Ramona Marquez, who plays Karen, and Daniel Roche, who plays Ben, steadily mature during its six year run, and their transformation is really driven home in a trailer for the new series.

The change is most noticeable in Karen, who first popped up on our screens aged seven years old.

The little girl who couldn't stop asking questions is now a young lady of 12. Her tousled curls are gone, the cuddly toys have been stowed away and, in their place, is a sleek brunette 'do and a pet hamster.

And, of course, a mobile phone.

Karen's two brothers, Jake and Ben, have also matured; Ben's childish voice has broken and he now towers over his mother, while Jake is now almost unrecognisable as a teenager with styled hair, disengaged expression and laptop.

As their on-screen mum says wistfully while staring at her three grown-up children, you can't help but wonder how things can grow. And grow. And grow.
