Renowned for its famous music guests, and occasional showbiz tantrums, Buzzcocks has been entertaining BBC viewers since it was first broadcast in 1996, but it has now been dropped by the BBC.
Comedian Phil Jupitus is the only member of the show to have stayed for the entire 28 series, while Sean Hughes, Bill Bailey and Noel Fielding have all captained the opposing team.
Hosts have included Mark Lamarr (who was on the show for a whopping 17 series), before the chair was taken over by Simon Amstell and later Rhod Gilbert.
‘After 28 series we’ve decided not to bring Never Mind the Buzzcocks back to the BBC’ said a statement from the network.
‘This will create space for new entertainment formats in the future. We’d like to thank the team at Talkback, Rhod Gilbert, all the brilliant hosts over the years and of course Noel and Phil for the years if enjoyment they’ve given BBC Two viewers.’
The show had its fair share of controversial moments, perhaps most notably when Simon Amstell read out a section from Chantelle Houghton’s biography, while her then husband Preston was a guest.
‘The photoshoot was for the Daily Mail, which made me feel really posh and upmarket,’ Amstell read from Houghton’s book, before Preston stood up, said ‘I can’t be bothered with this’ and stormed of f the stage.
However, Amstell’s tactics for turning on guests left long term team captain Phil considering quit tin, saying ‘it started to get a bit wearing.’
