UPDATE: Mel and Sue have QUIT as Great British Bake Off hosts and will NOT be moving to Channel 4.

The popular presenting duo have fronted the show since 2010, alongside judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood.

A joint statement said: "We were very shocked and saddened to learn yesterday evening that Bake Off will be moving from its home. We made no secret of our desire for the show to remain where it was.

"The BBC nurtured the show from its infancy and helped give it its distinctive warmth and charm, growing it from an audience of two million to nearly 15 at its peak.

"We've had the most amazing time on Bake Off, and have loved seeing it rise and rise like a pair of yeasted Latvian baps.

"We're not going with the dough. We wish all the future bakers every success."

We're crying so much we've got soggy bottoms of our own!

What does this mean for Paul, Mary AND the future of GBBO? Can someone start a petition? Please? PLEASE?

Rumours have already started about who will replace the much loved pair, but will the show ever be the same?

Who will replace Mel and Sue on GBBO?

Jo Brand

She currently hosts The Great Britsh Bake Off spin-off show An Extra Slice, and bookmakers William Hill have Jo as the replacement with the odds of 6/1.

Ant and Dec

Could the famous duo present the GBBO?

According to the Mirror the pair are set to sign a new £30 million contract with ITV but we're sure Channel 4 would be keen to get the duo on the baking show.

David Lamb

He's currently the voice of Channel 4's Come Dine With Me and as GBBO is moving to Channel 4, could he be Mel and Sue's replacement?

Nadiya Hussain

Since winning the show, last year's winner, Nadiya has baked the Queen her birthday cake, released her own book and was a judge for the Junior Bake Off, so we would LOVE to see her back on the show.

Here's a few others that have also been rumoured:

  • Jennifer Saunders

  • Emma Willis

  • Claire Balding

  • Davina McCall

  • Nigella Lawson

  • Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield

  • Gok Wan

  • Kirsty Allsop and Phil Spencer

  • Rachel Riley

EARLIER: The BBC has lost the rights to broadcast GBBO

It’s the end of an era for Bake Off fans.

No longer will we enjoy our favourite baking show without any interruptions, as Love Productions (the people behind the programme) have failed to reach an agreement with the BBC after over a year of negotiations.

This means the quintessentially British show will soon be shown on Channel 4, instead of BBC, after they signed a three-year deal with the production company.

The move will see the first series start with a celebrity version of the Great British Bake Off in 2017.

Richard McKerrow, the creative director of Love Productions, said: "We believe we've found the perfect new home for Bake Off. It's a public service, free-to-air broadcaster for whom Love Productions have produced high-quality and highly successful programmes for more than a decade.

“It's tremendously exciting to have found a broadcaster who we know will protect and nurture The Great British Bake Off for many years to come."

GBBO

But what could this mean for our favourite judges and presenters?

Mary Berry, Paul Hollywood, Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc have previously admitted they were keen to remain on the BBC, so will they want to be a part of the new move? And will Love Productions want them on board?

Last night, Sue retweeted a statement from the BBC Press Office, which read: "We made a very strong offer to keep the show but we are a considerable distance apart on the money. The BBC's resources are not infinite.

"'GBBO' is a quintessentially BBC programme. We hope Love Productions

change their mind so that Bake Off can stay ad free on BBC One."

Mary Berry has also spoken out about the move, telling the Express.co.uk: “I have no idea, anything that happens is nothing to do with my choice.”
