ITV bosses are desperate to increase jungle security following news a killer could be hiding out near camp

According to The Sun, guards and protection systems have been knocked up a gear as locals expressed their concern that an escaped criminal could be hiding in the jungle.

The killer, aged somewhere in his forties, targeted a man during a house raid and stabbed him in the eye, before murdering him and injuring his 25-year-old son.

A resident from the New South Wales town where the murder took place, told the paper: "It's a sleepy place and we're not used to this sort of thing happening.

"It was a shocking thing to happen and we're still reeling from it."

A spokesman for ITV also confirmed: "We have a security team on site.

"The safety and security of our celebrities and crew is of the upmost importance."

The police from the local town – which is around five miles from camp – have insisted the "investigation continues".
