EastEnders fans have been puzzling over who killed Lucy Beale for months - almost a year, in fact - and, last night, we were finally given a VERY big clue as to who did the dark deed.
Yup, at the 2015 National Television Awards, Dermot O'Leary halted the ceremony midway through and made his way across to the EastEnders cast… where a man was holding onto a silver case.
And inside the case was the last thing Lucy Beale ever heard: a music box.
More specifically, the music box where she stored her drugs.
Check it out for yourselves:
But what does it mean?
Well, we already know that this music box mysteriously appeared as a creepy surprise under the Christmas tree - where it was unwrapped by a (seemingly) traumatised Cindy Beale.
The main topic of speculation before the episode aired was whether Lucy's killer sent the present, but in the episode we learned that the jewellery box had been donated to the local charity shop.
As in, the killer got rid of it - shortly after her murder.
Which, we presume, must have happened at the Beale house. After all, why else would her music box be there?
We imagine Lucy was listening to her music box in her bedroom, reflecting on the dramatic events of the day - and wound up speaking with someone as she did it.
Someone she trusted enough to be in her bedroom. Someone who had easy access to the Beale house.
Someone like… Jane Beale?
Oh yes, we went there.
Firstly, we saw Jane conveniently back up Lauren's alibi when a video emerged showing her lurking outside Lucy's house on the night of her death - something she neglected to mention in her original police statement.
Jane claimed she saw Lauren turn and walk away rather than go inside the Beale house… but the fact that she saw Lauren at the time puts Jane back in Albert Square at the time of Lucy's murder.
But was she really somewhere else and does she have something to hide?
There's also the fact that Jane Beale was NOT one of the family to leave a message on Lucy's phone that fateful night, despite usually being the mediator of the situation.
Does that mean she'd already tried to calm Lucy down - and failed? Badly?
Thirdly, when Jane found the police woman's calling card on the table, she seemed to know that something terrible had happened straight away. Unlike Denise, who clung to optimism, Jane stood by the window and waited for Ian's return.
And, finally, we know that the killer will be revealed on the 19th February… the same day that Jane remarries Ian Beale.
Anyone else thinking that, just maybe, it could all come out (in typical EastEnder fashion) at the the altar?
We guess it remains to be seen; after all, this is just a theory.
But we definitely DO think the music box places Lucy Beale in her own home at the time of her death - and that definitely narrows down the list of suspects.
