Kym Marsh has felt on the verge of quitting Coronation Street - she says she considers leaving the show every time she is offered a new contract.
The former Hear’Say singer is currently signed up to appear on the soap until next June and bosses have a number of plots scripted for her.
But she admits she feels uncertain each time her ITV agreement is up for renewal.
She told the Daily Star Sunday: "It’s always something that when you are at the end of a contract, you are thinking, 'Are they going to want me to stay? What do I do?'
"That’s always something that people think. Having been on the show for 10 years, you do sit there and go, 'Would I want to? Would I like to?'"
Kim seriously thought about walking away from Corrie earlier this year and grappled with the decision for quite a while.
"I thought about it for a long time," she said. "It was obviously a huge decision."
Kym’s character Michelle Connor and her husband Steve, played by actor Simon Greyson, have been keeping viewers gripped with their current storyline.
Last week, viewers of the series saw that Steve is at risk of myotonic dystrophy, a muscle wasting disease.
"Both Simon and I are privileged to be given such serious subject matter," Kym said.
"Steve has found out that he may have inherited a genetic disease from his father. And we will see how that impacts on Michelle.
"And, of course, Michelle doesn’t know that Leanne is still carrying Steve’s baby.
"This storyline is going to be one that plays for a long time. We’re going to see a lot of twists and turns before it’s over."
Soap fans have also seen Steve battle depression in recent months but Kym says this has had a positive outcome.
She said: "Because of the depression storyline, Simon got a lot of letters that said, 'Thank you so much for doing that - I watched it and it forced me to go to the doctor.'
"Hearing that makes it all worthwhile and it shows we’re doing a good job."
