Kellie, 39, and 38-year-old Danny play EastEnders favourites Linda and Mick Carter – and her on-screen husband just as protective of her in real life.

Speaking to OK! magazine, Kellie said: "Danny said, 'Don't do it!' No, he's a massive support to me, he's also quite nervous for me. He feels quite protective of me! 'What if they say nasty things to you?'"

But, just like Linda, Kellie is a tough cookie, and thinks she'll have no problem taking constructive criticism. She added: "But it's just like taking direction, they're only trying to make you better."

Kellie joked that, while Linda would love to do the BBC One dance competition, she sees it as a mini prison sentence.

"Linda Carter would love to be on Strictly," she continued. "I guess it's nice to do the flip side, it is going to be fun and completely different.

"I really wanted to do it, I did know it was going to be hard and I will have my moments of being exhausted, but I think you just have to take it day-by-day."

Other stars taking part in the new series include Peter Andre, former Coronation Street actress Georgia May-Foote and celebrity chef Ainsley Harriott.

Strictly returns Saturday at 7.15pm on BBC One – who are you looking forward to seeing?
