Johnny Depp has been flown back to Los Angeles for surgery after injuring himself whilst filming the latest instalment of the Pirates of the Caribbean movie franchise.
The 51-year-old wasn't filming or on the set - which is in Australia's Gold Coast - when he injured his hand over the weekend, and just how he caused damage to his hand has yet to be disclosed.
A Disney spokesperson confirmed that the incident will have only a minimal impact on filming, with work continuing on scenes not featuring Depp, who plays Captain Jack Sparrow.
“The film won’t be delayed too much,” they said firmly.
This is not the first time the film has come under threat; earlier this week, a man dressed as a pirate – complete with a parrot on his shoulder – allegedly threatened film crew with a knife before fleeing into nearby bushland.
A police search of the area failed to find the dreadlocked man, who was not believed to be an extra.
Pirates of the Caribbean is set to be released in July 2017.
The fifth instalment of the franchise will see Jack Sparrow's arch-nemesis Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem) escape from the Devil's Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea… including him.
Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.
We can't wait to see it - how about you?
