fast-lent

On Pancake Day we gorged ourselves stupid on sweet, sweet fried batter, lemon and sugar, knowing that, the next day, we'd have to give up all things delicious for Lent.

It was good. It was amazing. It was the best of meals, but it was also the worst of meals, because...

CUE THE BEGINNING OF LENT!

The very first day, we were hit by the enormity of what we'd decided to do.

No chocolate. No cigarettes. No sugar in our teas.

NO BISCUITS WITH OUR TEAS!

As you can imagine, we weren't feeling too great about the future.

And so Lent began.

Breakfasts were easy; we were too sleepy to miss the sugar on our Weetabix or the jam on our toast. But lunchtimes... well, lunchtimes were extremely tense.

And the less said about dinner, the better really...

Non-Lent friends weren't very considerate of our plight…

But we tried our best to explain it to them.

Some of our fellow Lent pilgrims, however, were taking the sudden sacrifice a LOT better than we were...

KEEP YOUR GOOD VIBES TO YOURSELF, HAPPY LENT PEOPLE!

And, meanwhile, temptation was everywhere. Everywhere. Sugar cubes have never looked so damn good, you know.

Well... almost never, anyway.

But, finally, Easter weekend hit. And we knew our suffering was almost over.

We only had to make it to Sunday. JUST UNTIL SUNDAY!

And then finally...

FINALLY...

That day was upon us.

And we were free at last.

FREE TO EAT ALL OF THE SUGAR IN THE WORLD, IF WE WANTED!

Cue one of the most hedonistic experiences of our entire lives...

Yeah, it wasn't pretty.

Yeah, it wasn't sexy.

And, yeah, it probably wasn't all that good for our hearts / stomachs / attention levels.

But you know what?

It was totally, totally worth it.

Even if... well, even if we are headed straight towards a major sugar crash.

Happy Easter, everybody!
