Teens Peri , Lily and Yasmine will feature in a special episode exploring the ordeal of self-harming and the impact on friends, family and loved-ones

Yasmine and Peri make a shocking discovery next week when they witness their friend Lily, self-harming.

Earlier on the teens have all gone head to head in a journalism competition in which they have to write a winning article. Keen to win the competiton, Peri and Yamsine start to plot against Lily but when they follow her into the toilets, they’re horrified to catch her in a cubicle and see her self-harming.

Lily has always seemed so perfect and in control to them, that the sight of her cutting her arm is truly shocking. However rather than confront her, Yasmine decides the subject would make a powerful topic for the journalism competition and sets about penning an emotional piece.

She’s overwhelmed when her article wins first prize and headteacher, Sally St Claire, reads it aloud to all the entrants. Thankfully, Yasmine has kept Lily anonymous, but as Sally reads the piece the three girls are clearly struggling to hide their emotions and the head immediately suspects this piece is based on personal experience.

She later calls the three girls into her office and tells them that she is worried that one of them is self-harming but when they all deny it she feels she has no choice but to raise her concerns to their parents, Misbah, Leela and Diane.

The special episode focuses entirely on the three teens and their concerned parents who want answers and aims to raise awareness of the impact that self-harming has on young people, their families and their loved-ones.

A spokesperson said, “Hollyoaks have worked closely with Samaritans and MIND on the storyline. One in four young women aged 16-24 surveyed in England say that they have self-harmed at some point in their life, and serious self-harm is one of the strongest indicators that someone, male or female, may be at risk of taking their own life.”

As more revelations come to light about Lily, Yasmine and Peri, what can Misbah, Leela and Diane do to help? Or are things set to get worse for the teens before they get better?
