Hollyoaks fans, it seems as if we’ve seen the last of Lockie Campbell.

Nick Rhys, who plays the character, has confirmed that he will not be returning to the soap.

Speaking to Digital Spy, he said: "It's been a great honour and pleasure to help create and play Lockie on Hollyoaks."

He continued: "He was a complicated character and seemed to have the ability to get himself both into, and out of trouble, with equal ease. It was fun trying to find that balance.

"I think Lockie's relationship with his brother Cameron was a great part of my enjoyment on the show. I'm lucky to have such a great actor to work with in Cameron Moore, and even luckier to have him as a friend. I'll miss him.

"I will also miss so many great people on the show. It's been so fun to work with such a talented bunch."

But what does this mean for his character?

Well, in Monday’s E4 first look episode, viewers watched as Lockie’s dark storyline with his evil and twisted brother, Cameron (Cameron Moore), come to a head.

After escaping from the abandoned shack where he had been held captive since Christmas, Lockie had initially planned to tell police that psychotic Cameron was behind the explosion which killed Ziggy Roscoe.

But, before he could do so, Cameron snapped photos of Lockie clutching a petrol can.

He then revealed that he would use the misleading snapshots to frame his brother for Ziggy’s death if he didn’t leave town.

To give credit to Cameron, he didn’t forget that blood is thicker than water, after all he DID offer to drive Lockie wherever he wanted.

But Lockie refused to go along with the scheme… and it triggered something terrifying in Cameron.

Viewers watched as the murderer furiously chased after a desperate Lockie in his car - leaving fans to wonder exactly what his fate would be.

After all, Patrick Blake (Jeremy Sheffield) was murdered off-screen; could Cameron, in a terrible bid to hide his crimes, really run his brother down and hide the body?
