Duncan James – mostly known for being one quarter of boy band Blue – has joined the cast of Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks.

Duncan will be playing Ryan, a new character that moves into the village with his family.

Speaking about his new role, Duncan said: "I am absolutely thrilled to be joining the Hollyoaks team!

"I'm looking forward to working with the fantastic on - and off - screen talent on the show and bringing the character of Ryan to life."

Revealing a bit more about Duncan’s character, a Hollyoaks spokesperson added: "Ryan is a good guy in a committed relationship who will move into the village.

“He is a grounded family man with principles and integrity but who will fight tooth and nail for what he believes in."

Duncan formed Blue alongside Antony Costa, Lee Ryan and Simon Webbe in 2000 and released their fifth album last year.

During 2005-2008 the group was on hiatus, and so Duncan released several songs as a solo artist. The singer also starred in West End productions Chicago, Grease: The School Musical, Legally Blonde and most recently, Priscilla Queen of the Desert.

In 2007, Duncan starred in DanceX as Billy Flynn and then in 2009, he starred in an episode of The Bill – so the 38 year old has had plenty of acting experience.

Duncan has also been a keen gym-goer in recent years, and regularly posts pictures and videos to his Instagram, much to the pleasure of his fans.

So Duncan’s appearance on the show will definitely fit in with the other good-looking cast members, don’t you think?
