Holly Willoughby appeared on The One Show, promoting her new book Truly Happy Baby – however the TV presenter and the BBC show was hit by backlash after viewers saw babies racing each other.

For a baby segment in honour of the Euro 2016 football championship, Holly and host Alex Jones were joined with several upset bubbas.

The babies were expected to crawl to the finish line, however viewers could barely hear co-hosts Alex and Matt Baker speaking as the little ones were screaming and crying.

One tot looked around the room before bursting into tears, whilst another sat at the start line unsure of what was happening.

Holly decided to step in and reassure a crying toddler, whilst the little ones were all being encouraged on the finishing line by loved ones and their toys.

Viewers took to Twitter suggesting the segment wasn’t a good idea as the babies became distressed.

A spokesperson for The One Show told Mirror Online: "This was a light-hearted item where four babies crawled for two metres towards their parents who greeted them with a big cuddle."

The One Show weeknights at 7pm on BBC One.
