To say that last night was an emotional rollercoaster for soap fans out there is an understatement. We are used to tuning in to our evening shows, whether that’s EastEnders, Coronation Street or Emmerdale, and watching their lives unfold before our eyes. Often we witness some harrowing storylines, upsetting scenes and devastating events.

However, many soap fans were left emotionally drained after witnessing not one but two heartbreaking deaths on ITV.

Emmerdale fans were left truly shocked and completely stunned by the scenes of Holly Barton being found dead by her mother, Moira, after a heroin overdose. Many took to Twitter to voice their horror and disbelief at the emotionally charged scenes, which saw Holly’s brother, Adam, breaking down in the pub and Moira dramatically running after the ambulance as they took away the body.

But there was even more shock and heartbreak to come as just half an hour later, Coronation Street fans witnessed the death of another beloved character – Maria O’Connor’s dog, Ozzy, who was diagnosed with cancer.

Maria bought the black Labrador, Ozzy, with Liam O’Connor, who was tragically murdered. She has had the canine companion since 2007 and had such a strong attachment to Ozzy as he was the last link to her now deceased husband.

After discovering that he had terminal cancer, Maria turned to brother, Kirk, who tried to comfort her. However, Ozzy passed away shortly afterwards as she cradled him on the couch.

Although we were aware of Ozzy's departure, it was still too much for viewers.

Fans on Twitter turned to the social media channel to vent their utter despair and heartbreak, pointing out that the entire evening had been one of extreme sadness.
