The official new line-up for The Great British Bake Off is here!
Our lives were irrevocably shattered back in September when it was announced that the UK's favourite talent show, The Great British Bake Off, was moving to Channel 4, taking with it the Nation's Nanna, Mary Berry.
We were also pretty gutted about Mel & Sue leaving too. :(
Naturally, speculation has been rife over who will be replacing the departed three and joining dough-lover Paul Hollywood at Channel 4.
But THANK GOODNESS - the wait is over.
After a month of umm-ing and ahh-ing, Prue Leith is now confirmed to join Paul on the judging panel, with QI's Sandi Toksvig and Mighty Boosh star Noel Fielding taking over from Mel & Sue as the hosts.
WAHOO!
Although no-one can replace Mary in our hearts, we're pretty happy with that and feel sure that Prue will do a bang-up job. We'll all be saying, "Mary who?" this time next year.
Ok, no we won't. But we'll all be keeping open minds for Prue.
And we have high hopes for Sandi and Noel too!
Who is Prue Leith?
Prue Leith is a South African restaurateur who began her career in 1960 at the tender age of 20. She started a business supplying high quality lunches to businesses, eventually growing to a massive catering business.
Prue opened Leith's in 1969, a Michelin starred restaurant, and went on to found a prestigious cooking school in 1975. She made a colossal amount of money, and sold everything except the restaurant in 1995. That same year, she helped to make the Prue Leith College in South Africa where she was born.
But Prue has many skills, turning her hand to writing as a food columnist for many high-profile British titles, publishing very successful cookery books as well as seven fiction novels, she truly is a talented lady.
Prue's role on The Great British Bake Off won't be her first televised stint on a judging panel, as she previously sat on the panel on Great British Menu from its first show in 2006 until last October.
Wait - that was when it was announced that Mary was leaving... Everything's starting to add up now!
Good luck, Prue!
Who is Sandi Toksvig?
Born in Denmark but growing up in New York and Britain, Sandi Toksvig is a well-known comedian. Currently the host of QI after taking over from Stephen Fry in October last year, she started her career at Cambridge University where she wrote and performed the first all-woman show at the Footlights, Cambridge's Drama Club.
Having performed for years on the comedy circuit, it's no surprise that she was a regular on renowned shows such as Whose Line Is It Anyway?, Mock The Week, Have I Got News For You - and if you're a Radio 4 listener, you'll recognise her voice from I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue. She has also performed on stage in many dramatic plays, including many Shakespearean pieces.
But Sandi's talents don't begin and end with the stage. She also uses her platform and well-known voice to promote equality for the genders, setting up a political party named the Women's Equality Party, which campaigns for gender equality for both men and women.
Sandi's sharp wit and excellent comic timing will make her a VERY suitable replacement host.
Who is Noel Fielding?
Noel Fielding is a comedian, a writer, an actor, a musician... The list is endless. This multi-talented guy has been in the entertainment business since the age of 23, having now been around for 20 years.
His star first started to shine in The Mighty Boosh, an off-the-wall comedy TV show which he co-created and co-wrote. Having started out as a stand-up comedian, The Mighty Boosh catapulted him into the mainstream and made him a recognisable face. You may also know him from TV show The IT Crowd and as a team captain on Never Mind The Buzzcocks alongside Phill Jupitus.
Known for his quirky style and sense of humour, Noel may not be an obvious choice to join the wholesome Bake Off, but he and Sandi teaming up will create a fantastic new brand for the show.
