After joining Channel 4's Gogglebox this year Georgia McCormick, her husband Scott, and 14 year-old Isaac have become firm favourites with the viewers.

The family were initially were hesitant to take part in the show, as they were worried how the viewers would react to Isaac.

Just a few years ago, the 14-year-old schoolboy developed Tourette’s Syndrome, a neurological condition which causes repetitive and involuntary movements and sounds (including swear words) which are called tics.

However they needn’t have worried, as the nation has completely fallen in love with their quirky family - and praised them for bringing the realities of Tourette’s to the public eye.

Now, speaking to What’s On Tv, Georgia has opened up about how her family was approached to star on Channel 4’s hit show.

She said: "We were contacted by the Tourette’s community, through a friend of ours, who said 'I think your family would be good on Gogglebox, how do you feel about giving it a go?'

“We were like, 'What?!’”

She continued: “So we had a chat about it as a family, particularly with Isaac to make sure it was something he’d be comfortable with:

“It was literally up to Isaac whether or not we would do the show. It’s putting him out there with his condition and we wanted to know he’d be comfortable with that. Me and Scott took a back seat and let Isaac have a good think about it. We discussed the pros and cons, but he did want to do it."

Despite agreeing to go ahead with the show, however, Scott and Georgia decided that they would pull out if Isaac received any abuse whatsoever from cruel trolls.

Scott explained: "We said from the start, if we get any abuse over Isaac or it turns sour, we’ll pull out. But it’s been really well executed. So hats off to the production company, they’ve done a great job."

Isaac, meanwhile, has praised Gogglebox producers for allowing him to raise awareness for Tourette’s sufferers everywhere - and the realities of their day-to-day life.

He said: “In terms of awareness I think people do know what Tourette’s is but there are so many misconceptions and so many stereotypes. For example, they think that everyone with Tourette’s will swear, but actually, it’s only 10 per cent of people with Tourette’s will swear."

His proud mum added: "I like the fact that you see more and more different people on TV now because that’s life. Everybody is different and unique. We need so much more of it and, although we’re getting better, it’s not enough.

“We still need to see much more. The more awareness the better, really."

The McCormicks have a second son called Archie, who is 9-years-old, as well as a labrador called Lola and a St. Bernard called John.
