Leon Bernicoff's wife June, 76, told the Liverpool Echo: "He didn't feel well on Sunday night and we called an ambulance, and the ambulance staff thought he should go in.

"It all happened really, really quickly."

However, thankfully, the twinkly-eyed telly fan was soon back to his usual fighting fit form.

June explained: "Leon is [now] ok.

"He spent the night in the Royal Liverpool and was allowed home on Monday. They think it was a virus and he's now been told to get plenty of rest.

"I'd like to thank everyone at the Royal and all the people who have tweeted

She later fired off a furious message at Prime Minister David Cameron via Twitter, asking him to help out the NHS.

The former teacher wrote: "NHS Emergency depts are over-run and under-staffed but still do a fantastic job. Are you reading this Prime Minister?"

June added: "Thanks to NHS Liverpool Royal Hospital Emergency Dept. You were great even though very busy!!!"

Leon, who recently revealed that his "absolutely wonderful" wife "does everything for me", is back home now and gradually improving.

June reassured his fans: "Thanks for all the Get Well Wishes!! Leon's very touched with your concern.

"He's home now and gradually improving. Thanks everyone."

Thank goodness for that - we wish him a speedy recovery!
