Coronation Street viewers left less than impressed by the culmination of the Gemma Winters’ quads storyline, with one insisting script writers needed “more attention to detail”.
Gemma first learned she was expecting four babies back in June, and scenes in a recent episodesaw her give birth to one while suspended 700ft in a cable car above the Llandudno valley.
After managing to get down and being whisked off to hospital, Gemma gave birth to the other three babies via emergency C-section, but fans were quick to point out that Gemma up and about minutes after the surgery was less than realistic.
“Coronation street. Emergency c section under a general anaesthetic ... and there she is walking around a NICU unit, snogging Chesney’s face off,” wrote one Twitter user. “Yeah... that’s true to life. That event would have been so traumatic. Massive fail #coronationstreet.”

Another wrote, “So realistic tonight’s episode. Gemma had 1 baby vaginally, 3 under general anaesthetic yet she’s up walking about seeing babies in SCBU #coronationstreet.”
The unlikely storyline was first announced back in February, with telly sources saying they hoped it would provide a comedy element that the soap had been lacking.
“The show’s new boss, Iain McLeod, is keen to inject a bit of old-fashioned humour into Coronation Street like in the years gone by and this storyline will have viewers in stitches,” said a Corrie insider.
“Gemma doesn’t miss a trick and instantly thinks of ways she make some dosh out of her and Chesney’s unexpected news."
