After a truly explosive Christmas Day, you’d think the residents of Weatherfield would want a nice relaxing start to the New Year.
But just weeks into 2020 and there’s already more drama on the cobbles, with Maria Connor contracting measles after Daniel Osbourne fails to get baby Bertie vaccinated as he grieves for his wife, Sinead Tinker.
And when Maria loses her baby because of the virus, her boyfriend Gary Windass holds Daniel and his inaction with Bertie responsible.

Scenes this week see Gary confront Daniel and Bethany Platt in the street, but with Gary’s volatile temper, we’re not convinced this is the end of it.
And actor Mikey North, who plays Gary, has revealed there’s more to come, telling Lorraine Kelly, “Daniel in the midst of his grief has failed to vaccinate his little boy.
"Maria then catches the measles and loses the baby. This throws another spanner in the works of their turbulent relationship.
"Gary is going to go after Daniel now and seek revenge on him. Doctor Ali finds Maria and takes her to the hospital."

Corrie bosses are clearly hoping to squeeze action out of every episode this year after rival soap Emmerdale brought home the gong for Best Serial Drama at the 2020 NTAs last night – for the fourth year running.
But though Corrie may not have bagged the top prize, Sinead Tinker actress Katie McGlynn won Best Serial Drama performance for her haunting portrayal of the young mum dying from terminal cancer.
“I am shocked I even got nominated for this award,” she said in her acceptance speech.
“Thanks everyone who voted for the storyline. Thanks to Corrie and Iain MacLeod. People don’t understand the background that goes into this – the research, the writing.”
