Channel 4’s First Dates is one of our absolute guilty pleasures.
There’s just nothing we love more than watching two people navigate their way through a blind date; there’s all that simmering sexual tension, all those flirtatious glances, those intriguing over-dinner revelations, and all of those awkward dad jokes.
However this week’s episode of First Dates wasn’t just awkward to watch; it was downright cringeworthy.
Yup, Paddy, a 42-year-old graphic designer, was paired up with 37-year-old Heather, and things seemed to be going well.
Until she revealed that she didn’t eat meat or fish, that is.
Instead of asking her to talk more about her reasons for going vegetarian, Paddy decided to share a little anecdote of his own.
And it was a humdinger.
He said: “Years and years ago, I was dating this girl — well, not dating, I was 'seeing' this girl — and she was quite... domineering.
“I found it a bit scary.”
He added, not-so-cryptically: “I won’t go into all the details. But… it stank.
“And you don’t like fish."
Dear god.
Unsurprisingly, Heather was seriously NOT impressed with that crass oral sex joke (who would be?) - but the pair had to continue to struggle through their horrifying date.
Heather later revealed, as we had predicted, that she didn’t want to see Paddy ever again.
Mainly because he was gross.
Paddy, meanwhile, described Heather as “nice” but said that he felt she needed "to loosen up a bit, I think."
Hmm.
It seems as if viewers did NOT agree with him one little bit…
Worst. Blind date. Ever.
