Georgia May Foot's character Katy Armstrong will be written out of Coronation Street after four years on the cobbles.
The actress has tweeted she is looking forward to her final storylines and the chance to see what she can do elsewhere.
Confirming the news on her Twitter account, she wrote: "Thankyou for all your lovely messages regarding me leaving coronation street! Obviously it will be a very emotional time for me!
"But how exciting! I cant wait to get back out there and see what i can do! This is only the beginning of so much more for me!
"Also! It wont be till the end of the year! So lots more Katy to come im sure! X (sic)"
Her tweets came after an announcement was made over the weekend revealing that she is getting axed from the show , despite recently signing a new contract worth £100,000-a-year.
She said: "I am very excited about what the future holds. While I will be sorry to say goodbye to Weatherfield I am looking forward to the challenge of new roles.”
Coronation Street boss Stuart Blackburn, meanwhile, has insisted that Katy Armstong will not - as Michelle Keegan's Tina McIntyre has - be killed off.
"Katy will not be killed off and the door will be left open for a possible return. We wish Georgia every success with her future career."
