Emmerdale bosses have made the decision to kill off baddie Emma Barton played by Gillian Kearney

It looks like killer Emma Barton is about to meet the justice of the Soap Gods in Emmerdale later this year. The Sun has reported that the character, who is known for killing James Barton and manipulating dementia sufferer Ashley Thomas to hide her crime, is set to be killed off later this year. Everyone knows that you can't commit a crime like murder in Soap Land and get away with it!

But, according to a source, actress Gillian Kearney, who has played loopy Emma since 2015, is less than happy about her character being killed off.

The source told the paper: "The writers were looking for their big summer story and they decided Emma would be at the centre of it.

“They felt there had to be retribution for all the trouble she’s caused.

“They are going to be writing in more devious storylines for her and building her into a complete psycho."

The insider added: "Gillian had a discussion to see if they would leave the door open for Emma but they wanted a dramatic death.

“It’s put a few noses out of joint, as there’s a feeling that the actors who put in the graft are not being recognised and either made to leave or killed off.”

Emma is at the centre of a Barton-family feud at the moment after Moira blackmails Ross into signing his share of the farm over. Emma vows revenge - will her exit be related to this?
